|The theme Invisible Cities continues to be the landscape of my work. Traveling to such diverse cultures as India, China, North Africa, Scandinavia, Europe, The Americas and then braving expeditions to Antarctica and the Arctic, I interpret my journeys not in a representational format. Rather, my impressions are of the inner poetry of a place, reminiscent of Italo Calvino's grand designs or Naguib Mahfouz's Children of the Alley. I concentrate on patterns of color, texture, written language and symbol, human, animal and plant life. When I return home, I research poets, past and present, indigenous to the culture, to keep the experience alive. Application on canvas, wood, and paper, in layers of paint, pumice, sand and metal leaf, enhances the sensual memory.||
